We help people manage stress and emotional trauma:
Anxiety and Stress
Anxiety and Stress are often reflected in the body in the form of tension. People with tense personalities often have muscle tension in the range of over 10 microvolts (a measurement of muscle contraction); more relaxed individuals may register in the 3-4 microvolt range. The cumulative effects of stress can be reversed by learning to relax the affected muscles through biofeedback training to a level of 1 or 2 microvolts (or less). Without this kind of clearing, stress continues to build and diminish a person's quality of life. With biofeedback training, people are interested in maintaining their newfound experience of relaxation, and are far less likely to build up tension in the future.
Childhood Trauma
The body "remembers" painful emotional experiences. Often, weight problems, phobias, feelings of helplessness, tension, and many other symptoms are directly related to memories stored in the body. These physical demonstrations of early stress frequently result from verbal, emotional, and physical abuse. Abuse includes neglect of survival needs, withholding of love and affection, and actual verbal or physical attacks, which may leave permanent visible or invisible signs. The monitoring provided by Biofeedback therapy reveals these hidden body memories so that the experience can be brought into present consciousness, where the client and therapist can effectively address the psychological issues. Without treatment, these child traumas can last a lifetime, affecting not only the quality of life, but also the ability to find fulfillment in life.
Pre-Surgery Stress
People with training in biofeedback and self-regualtion are more prepared for surgery, do better in surgery, and recover faster. These patients have learned to focus and manage the stress of surgery psychologically, physically, and emotionally. The key is learning relaxation skills by receiving feedback from the body as to its actual level of relaxation. This kind of learning and preparation requires real-time information, which biofeedback provides. The same techniques can be applied to pregnancy and childbirth, as self-regulation skills allow the birth process to happen with minimal anxiety.
Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)
Therapy and biofeedback are used in conjunction with each other to treat emotional trauma. Such experiences are stored by the body in the form of physical memory, which biofeedback equipment is able to locate and recall. The passage of time does not "heal all wounds" as people often think. The experiences remain recorded in the body rhythms and brain waves, until revealed through a holistic approach, such as the psychophysiological therapy offered at LQR. As this treatment is implemented, the biofeedback information offers clear, objective evidence of success in resolving traumatic issues.
