Life Quality Recovery Program (LQRP):
Treatment Process
Through a program combining Neurotherapy and related cognitive and behavioral treatment methods, participants are assisted in recovery of skills and abilities impaired or lost as a result of injury. The LQRP utilizes an intensive 75 hour format. In this process, one or two participants are involved in a one-on-one training process with a senior clinician. Each day of the program includes two to six hours of treatment activity two or more times per week.
Neurotherapy is the centerpiece of the LQRP treatment program. Neurotherapy is a process of EEG/Neurofeedback in which the individual is provided with direct real-time information about his or her brain function. The feedback information, like the dancer's reflection in a studio mirror, creates an awareness of brain function that was previously unavailable to the person's consciousness.
Specifically, injured areas of the brain appear in EEG recordings as abnormal excesses of slow frequency patterns (delta and theta waves), and deficits of faster frequencies (alpha and beta waves). By placing sensors on the scalp over the injured area, EEG frequency patterns can be detected and displayed via computer as visual and auditory feedback. With Neurofeedback, as the individual attempts to alter these abnormal EEG patterns, even the smallest increment of positive change can be detected and simulated by the feedback process. As in all types of learning, having immediate, accurate feedback supports and encourages success. Therefore, the Neurofeedback learning process provides a highly specialized method for helping the brain move toward recovery of the healthy patterns that were disrupted by the injury.
During the past twenty five years, research and clinical experience has found that Neurofeedback is an effective component in the treatment of a range of Central Nervous System (CNS) injuries and disorders, including: head injury, stroke, coma, epilepsy, post-traumatic stress disorder, attention deficit disorders, sleep disorders, depression and cognitive dysfunction.
Since 1980, Dr. Dan Chartier at Life Quality Resources has been using Neurofeedback to successfully treat patients with CNS based disorders. Dr. Lucy Chartier has been working in the field of cognitive-behavioral treatment, energy medicine, and neuro-pharmacology since 1978. The Life Quality Resources Program grew out of their combined experience and incorporates the latest research and clinical results on Neuro-behavioral treatment for brain injury.
